Romantic Traditional Wedding in White & Gold with Edge

Welcome to the beautiful Cockliffe Country House wedding of WWW followers Emily and Steve in Nottinghamshire. Their day was filled with love, romance and simplistic beauty.

They had a traditional style wedding with an edge thanks to their cool attire and awesome food choices! There was a gold and white colour scheme, sensational flowers and the dreamiest of portraits. Does it get any more romantic?!

Thanks so much to The Light Painters for sharing with us these insanely stunning captures of one very special day indeed.

The Proposal

Steve surprised me with a trip to Playa Blanca, Lanzarote which holds many special memories for us.

On the first night, Steve suggested a sunset walk before dinner, down to the gorgeous marina. There wasn’t a person in sight and as I took photos of the amazing horizon, I turned around and Steve was on one knee. I’ll always look back on those photos with such happiness as it marked the moment we started a brand new chapter together.

The Vision

The vision was to have simple moments of beauty and romance. So I kept our colour palette very neutral, with whites and creams but adding some contrast with the green foliage and gold.

I wanted soft textures, with flowing silks and soft pampas grass throughout. In many ways, we kept to tradition but added our own personal touches throughout.

Budget

Our original budget for the wedding was around £20k-£25k and we did pretty well in keeping to this. I had spreadsheets coming out of my ears which were a huge help in keeping on top of everything.

The Venue

Cockliffe Country House is really a house with history dating all the way back to 1725 and noting Winston Churchill as one of its guests.

The house has been renovated with some beautiful modern updates whilst maintaining a contemporary style. We chose Cockliffe House for its share beauty and loved that we could have exclusivity throughout the grounds. Thanks to the multiple bedrooms on site, it gave our guests the opportunity to stay over and continue the celebrations the next day.

Your Outfits

Wedding dress 1 – Sophia Tolli aims to make every bride feel confident, empowered and beautiful on their special day and this is exactly how I felt. I wanted that ‘wow’ factor for my dress and what better way to do that but with the unbelievable Sophia Tolli lace trains!

With the detailed buttons running the length of the dress, the low back and fitted shape, it created the elegant but romantic vibe I was aiming for.

Wedding dress 2 – To add my own personal touch I decided (very last minute) that for my evening reception I would have a dress change. I wanted a similar vibe as my first dress but simpler and minimalist – and a bit more comfortable for the dancing! It was a spare of the moment decision to do a dress change at all, but after seeing this perfect bridal dress from Zara I thought ‘why not!’.

Groom suit – Steve went for a timeless 3-piece navy suit by Moss Bros. To keep it contemporary he had the suit fully tailored to create a fitted silhouette and accessorized with gold detail.

The Ceremony & Music

I walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of Tenerife Sea by Ed Sheeran. I would urge everyone to go away and listen to the words right now!

Walking back up the aisle as man and wife was a celebration of love so there was never a more perfect song than All You Need Is Love by The Beatles.

Your Photographer

Hannah & Dave Ford – The Light Painters

The most talented husband and wife photography duo you will ever meet! When I found Hannah and Dave I fell in love with their romantic, moody photography style. They can capture the connection of couples in their photos whilst telling a story of the day. We had an engagement shoot included in our package which gave us the opportunity to get to know them, share ideas, and practice being in front of the camera.

The Styling & Decor

Charlotte from Fine & Dandy did an exceptional job in transforming my vision into reality and turned Cockliffe House into the perfect wedding venue. It allowed us to add our own personal touches, with giant ‘E & S’ letter lights and a bespoke golden mirror welcome sign.

To keep the styling classic yet simple we opted for lots of luxurious fabrics for table runners and gold lanterns, votives & candlesticks for table decorations. The large plinths on each table holding flower bombs were the perfect way of adding impact, but ensuring guests could still see and talk to one another.

Sophie from Sophie’s Flowers had an incredibly busy weekend as she was not only creating my perfect floral vision but also for that of Pixie Lott! But that didn’t stop Sophie from giving me the bouquet of dreams. To really blow our guests away Sophie created the most incredible flower bombs for each table and for our diamond backdrop. Sophie opted for giant roses and peonies, whites and creams in contrast with the pampas grass and eucalyptus. Truly stunning.

We decided to stray from tradition slightly and chose a cheese tower in place of a wedding cake. It was the perfect way to add a bit of an edge and it went down a storm with the guests. We also wanted a surprise for the evening guests so found the amazing team at Woodfired Pizza truck who have beautifully restored vintage French vans to serve their mouth-watering pizza.

The Honeymoon

This really was a once-in-a-lifetime trip. We started by touring Malaysia, taking in the incredible culture and the amazing food. We then flew to Borneo to tick off my ultimate bucket list of seeing Orangutans. Seeing these beautiful creatures in the wild was so emotional and something I will never forget.

We then flew to Singapore to take in the extraordinary architecture (Supertree Grove lightshow is a must!). We finished our trip with a week in paradise staying at the Constance Halaveli in the Maldives. It was such a life-changing experience for us both.

Memorable Moments

For my garter, as my ‘something old’ my sister had incorporated a piece of lace from my mother’s wedding dress. It was such a special detail and a memorable moment for all of us.

Walking down the aisle and seeing how happy everyone was to be there celebrating our marriage was the ultimate memory for me. We both felt incredibly loved by all our guests which was very special.

Advice For Other Couples

Try not to stress about the little things. As soon as you walk down the aisle everything else will fade into insignificance.

Wow wee, what a stunning day!
