Colour Explosion Wedding With Ribbons & Bright Blooms

What a treat it is to be sharing WWW followers Jaide and Tom’s Lancashire barn wedding. Their day was a multicolour dream with the most incredible style.

First up, the outfits. Jaide runs a costume business with her mum and so they made her two show-stopping gowns. Tom also had two outfits, which were both equally dapper. I have to say they both looked absolutely amazing!

Then, of course, there were the bright blooms of dreams, summer wedding flowers in an explosion of colour. Teamed with rainbow ribbons, balloons, colourful candles and you have the most incredible barn wedding decor. Wow!

It’s also great to see that WWW wedding supplier Entertainment Nation provided the evening band, hooray.

Beth Alderson Photography, thank you ever so much for sharing with us these dreamy images of one very special barn wedding indeed.

The Proposal

Tom knew I didn’t want anything over the top if he were ever to propose!

He took me back to our first date spot, very low-key in Preston (away from everyone we knew in Blackpool). A nice walk around the docks turned into the sweetest one-knee proposal, with the most beautiful Le Vian Sapphire engagement ring!

Of course, I said YES and couldn’t wait to share the news!

The Vision

I think most girls have a Pinterest board of their wedding before they are even engaged! I know I certainly did. We knew we wanted real flowers, full of colour, a great photographer and a unique venue! The hunt was on…

I think the original budget was around £15,000 but was more like £20,000 in the end due to us having extra time to save as the wedding was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Spreadsheets are your best friend when trying to plan and organise a wedding! It really helped us keep track of deposits and final payment dates.

The Ceremony & Music

Luckily the weather was glorious, probably the hottest day of the year we had so far! If we would have got married the year before as planned it was chucking it down the whole day! We felt like we had been given a second chance, and thankfully we got to use the stunning outdoor ceremony area.

I found it very difficult to concentrate on the vows as the view was breathtaking (as well as my husband! Haha).

I am very much a big kid at heart and Disney is a big part of my life. We agreed to involve Disney in some way that wasn’t too obvious, the music we chose for the ceremony was all instrumental music from our favourite Disney films.

We walked down the aisle to “See the Light” – from Tangled. Other instrumental songs whilst the guests where waiting included “So this is love” – Cinderella and “Bella Notte” – Lady and the Tramp.

The Venue

Bashall Barn – Clitheroe

We wanted a venue which was new to our guests, somewhere quirky that we/our guests had never been to before. We stumbled across this little barn in Clitheroe which ticked all of our boxes.

Countryside – stunning views overlooking the Ribble Valley
Farm animals – cows to be precise which made some very good photo opportunities
Outside ceremony area
Rustic charm

All the above made it the perfect backdrop for our special day.

Your Outfits

I am very lucky as I run a costume business with my mum! So far we have made my prom dress, 18th birthday dress, 21st birthday dress, it only seemed right to design and make my wedding dress together!

A very lengthy, quite stressful process as we felt a lot of pressure due to us making costumes for a living but so worth it in the end. I got the dresses of my dreams! I wanted something figure-hugging, glittery/fairytale-like and that’s exactly what we created. Finished off with the most stunning floral tulle sleeves and diamante veil. I felt like an actual princess!

The dress was too heavy for me to wear all day, so we created a second dress. Keeping the same bodice but removing the big skirt and corset and overlaying a duchess satin dress with a thigh-high split up the front, perfect for our first dance and evening celebrations!

A link to a quick video of the making of the dresses.

Tom wanted to go with the sharp black tuxedo look. His suit was by Ted Baker, his suit arms were then tailored to the correct length by my very talented Nan. Finished off with Kurt Geiger patent shoes and a hand-tied bow tie which took Tom several attempts to tie on the wedding morning due to nerves!

Of course, we couldn’t have a second dress for me without an outfit change for Tom! For our first dance and evening party he changed his black tuxedo jacket for a cream one from Slaters menswear, and I have to say this was my favourite ever look on Tom. It also complimented my second dress perfectly and it was much more comfortable for him in the 28 degree heat we had on the day!

The Styling & Decor

Theme: Colour Explosion

Our flowers were the main decoration for our wedding. Probably one of the biggest costs other than the venue, but so worth it. We had 4 large “flower bombs” which were on pedestals for the ceremony and then transferred to 4 of the wedding breakfast tables. Consisting of every colourful flower imaginable, the smell was divine!

We also had a spread of flowers which consumed the whole of the top table, it was beautiful. Mixed in-between were tall colourful candles.

Along with the flowers we had coloured ribbons hanging from the ceiling above every other table as well as a ribbon backdrop behind the top table.

We also ordered 6 extra-large white helium balloons with each one having colourful tassels to the floor. These were dotted around the wedding breakfast room adding even more colour.

Another nice touch was our “in loving memory of” memorial crates. Unfortunately, there were a few guests that couldn’t be with us to celebrate, including Toms’s mother. This was a nice way of having them with us on our special day whilst being remembered by everyone there. This display consisted of stacked crates with photographs, candles and flowers.

The best way to describe the wedding breakfast room was like something from Alice and Wonderland. Tom and I had a first look before the guests and it genuinely took our breath away!

Our cake was a three-tier naked cake – simple but effective. Each tier separated with glass plates and dressed with fresh fruit and flowers. With a wire cake topper of our initials, perfect!

I handwrote all of our guests name tags to save some money but was quite impressed with the outcome!

Your Photographer

Our Photographer – Beth Alderson

A good friend of mine from college – we studied photography together. Beth has since built an amazing photography business, her photography is stunning and I knew she HAD to be the one to photograph our day. So much so that I planned around what dates she had available!

She did not disappoint! It’s impossible to choose our favourite photos from the day! I couldn’t recommend her enough.

We decided against a filmmaker, mainly due to budget. Instead, I had a close friend capture small videos on my iPhone throughout the day which I then collated myself and added some music. Just a nice idea if you can’t afford a filmmaker.

The Honeymoon

Due to covid, we didn’t book a honeymoon due to all the uncertainty. We have been on holiday since the wedding to Barcelona in May 2022 – but no official honeymoon as of yet. The rest of our lives will be one big honeymoon I’m sure of it!

Memorable Moments

We only had two speeches (Groom and FOTB), which we did BEFORE the meal which everyone seemed to love! It allowed the people doing the speeches to actually relax and enjoy their meal knowing the speech was complete!

Both speeches by my Dad and Tom were fantastic and they couldn’t have been praised enough for them.

Another memorable moment that has been mentioned by our guests a few times were the cocktails that were served after the ceremony instead of champagne! We provided PIMMS and Mojitos and the guests loved it, especially on a hot day they couldn’t get enough!

Advice For Other Couples

Don’t sweat the small stuff.

There were a few things that I noticed weren’t in the correct place or what I hadn’t quite envisioned but nobody else knew that apart from Tom and I! You have to let the perfectionist inside you go, as the little details just aren’t important on the day. Just you, your husband and guests having the best day of your lives!

How very beautiful!

Jaide and Tom thank you ever so much for sharing with us your incredible Lancashire barn wedding story.
